山々

やまやま【山々】

1 〔多くの山〕 mountains.

●箱根の山々 the mountains of Hakone.

●アルプスの山々は雪に覆われていた. The Alps were covered with snow.

2 〔大いに〕 very much; greatly.

●…のはやまやまである 〔大いに欲する〕 want very much 《to do》; want nothing more than 《to do》; be anxious [eager] 《to do》; would [should] like very much 《to do》; have a great [strong] desire 《to do》; be dying 《to do》.

●行きたいのはやまやまですが. I would very much like to go, but…. | I'm dying to go, but….

・ほしいのはやまやまだが予算がね. We'd really like to get one, but we just don't have the money.
